Attack on TMC members, Yuva Morcha activists arrested

KNE;Mukesh Sharma Kalimpong, March 06: Some unknown people barged into the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of the hills’ meeting being held at a local hotel today. The TMC leaders especially Chewang Bhutia (President, Kalimpong Branch) and Bruno Lepcha suffered major injuries during the incident. The injured have been taken to a hospital in Siliguri amid tight security. It has been informed that Chewang Bhutia’s condiction is critical. 

During the meeting 10 members of the TMC District Committee were present. They were, Mahendra Gazmer, Tshering Sherpa, CP Khatiwada, Sanjeev Kabo, Michael Ling Damu, Pema Moktan, Gopal Chettri, Sukh Bahadur Subba including Chewang Bhutia and Bruno Lepcha. The TMC leaders have alleged the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) for the act. They said that around 20-30 members of the Yuva Morcha attacked them. 

The TMC leaders mainly stated the names of Barood Thapa, Binay Ghising Prabhat Ghising and Dipesh. “We were attacked with flower pots, rods and wooden planks on our head, face and back”, they said. An FIR was lodged against the attackers by the TMC workers at the Kalimpong Thana. 

Kalimpong ASP, Songmit Lepcha informing about the same said that FIR has been lodged against 20-30 Yuva Morcha activists. However, she refrained from saying the names of the Morcha workers. She said that the investigation of the incident is going on.
