Vehicle plunges into Teesta, driver untraced

KNE;MUKESH SHARMA Rambi, January 07: Accident claimed life of one Sanjay Khawas at 7:30 today morning when the Bolero Pick-up vehicle, driven by the victim plunged into river Teesta. As per the Police source, the said vehicle bearing number SK01 D/1503 collided with LPG tanker bearing number SK01D/2561 at the 29th Mile turning along the NH 31A. 

The collision resulted the Pick-up’s fall into the river. Both, the vehicle and Sanjay’s body remain untraced. It has been informed that the Pick-up was heading towards Siliguri from Gangtok. As per the eyewitnesses after the vehicle fell in the river, Sanjay had managed to get out of it and was trying to swim across the river. 

Unfortunately, a boulder hit his head after which the river swept him away. The several hours’ efforts of the Rescue Rafting Team ended unsuccessful because of the rise of the water level. The LPG tanker’s driver has been taken into custody by the Police.
