Teesta Pidhit Sangarsh Samiti formed to protect the affected

KNE;Rambi, January 07: The residents alongside the banks of River Teesta today formed the Teesta Pidhit Sangarsh Samiti. The meeting held at Tangey Forest Busty under the chairmanship of Sikh Bahadur Rai decided to form the said committee which includes the residents of the villages which are prone to Teesta River’s adverse effects. 

The Samiti are of the opinion that the representatives of the villages from Laltung busty to Rangpo bazaar will play a significant role in sorting out the problems caused by the hydel power projects. The newly formed Samiti has the members of the Himalayan Forest Villagers Organisation which includes Gobind Roka, Shyam Mukhia, Norbu Lama.

 It is also said that the newly formed Samiti shall voice against the issues left behind by the Railway track along with the problems cropped out by the two hydel power projects. The meeting decided that every individual shall work-out collectively. The meeting passed a resolution that, any project to be constructed under the respective jurisdiction must get the prior permission from the Gram Sabha. 

The Samiti also clarified that they are not against the development but against devastation. Ramesh Bhujel has been chosen as the president, AC Mothey as secretary, Damber Bhujel as treasurer, Rajen Giri as vice president, Durga Rai as assistant secretary of the newly formed Teesta Pidhit Sangarsh Samiti.
