21 year old harassed, accused under remand

KNE;Kalimpong, January 03: At this moment when the whole nation is jolted by the Delhi gang rape, similar incident has been reported today in Kalimpong. Aruna (name changed) today lodged a general Diary at the Kalimpong Thana of being harassed. As per the statement delivered by the 21 year old victim, one Tenzi Bhutia, a resident of Upper Cart, harassed her physically. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening.

The victim had come to Kalimpong that day in order to attend an Open School Coaching. She came across an old friend. Her friend Smriti took her along to Dibhchok at Chandralok to get some stuffs. The vehicle they boarded is said to have been of the accused. After returning from Dibhchok, Smriti asked the accused driver to drop Aruna home. The accused instead of taking the route to Aruna’s home took the vehicle to another road.

The victim realizing that she was being taken somewhere else opposed the driver. Instead of stopping, the driver sped the vehicle. The victim started shouting for help. The accused was then frightened and further the vehicle ended up being braked over a drain. Though the victim managed to flee, she was grabbed by the driver who further hit her hard.

When the people around the area came to help Aruna, the driver started fighting with them too. The accused was in a drunken state, it has been informed. The people then handed the accused to the Police. A case 341/354 and 323 of IPC has been filed against Tenzi. He has been produced before the court and is under judicial remand.
