Kolkata, Dec 11: The West Bengal assembly on Tuesday witnessed unruly scenes as members from the opposition Left Front and the ruling Trinamool Congress physically attacked each other. The house was adjourned following the scuffle.
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) lawmaker Gouranga Chattopadhyay reportedly had to be hospitalised after receiving injuries in the melee.
The trouble started when the opposition's adjournment motion on chit funds was admitted but a discussion was not allowed.
Both the Congress and the Left Front walked out of the House in protest.
"Some of our members were crying. We all were apprehensive of our security. We have walked out for the day. It is really surprising that the temple of democracy has been polluted and desecrated," Congress leader Manas Bhunia said.
Three Left MLAs - Amjad Hussain, Najibul Haq and Sushanta Besra - have been suspended by Speaker Biman Banerjee.
