Meeting to decide next phase of agitation in Dooars
KalimNews: A meeting of Joint Coordination Committee comprising of GJM, John Barla faction of ABAVP and others at Nagarkatta to be held today will decide on the next phase of the ongoing relay hunger strike. It was started from 3 May to end on 7 May, later extended to 10 May.
Demading GJM to hold public meetings in the areas of Dooars and Terai and inclusion of 396 mouzas of Dooars and Terai in the GTA, relay hunger strike was started at several places that ends today.
It is reported that the relay hunger strike organised at 12 places of Dooars and Terai had no impact on the government but on 8 May at Mungpoo Gautam Deb, TMC Minister urged the activists to withdraw the hunger strike.
There was confusion and doubts regarding the leadership of John Barla the ousted ABAVP leader supporting GTA. Low turnout of the supporters of Adivasi people in the venues of relay hunger strike and his absence for a few days were in question to the GJM leaders. GJM leaders of Dooars had informed the GJM central committee leaders that Barla has failed to prove his leadership among the Adivasi supporters. Some of the Dooars leaders of GJM were also reported to be negative to the proposal of starting a fast unto death from May 11.
Meanwhile John Barla broke his silence by visiting a few fast venues in the Terai area. He visited and met fast participants at Panchnadi. He claimed that the committee will sit and decide on the next phase of its agitational programme. He repeated that the state ABAVP had totally failed in luring the Adivasis to the state committee and oppose GTA. He also said that Adivasis of Dooars and Terai are with him and had participated in the fast.
