MLA questions the Government on being disapproved to conduct a public meeting

MLA questions the Government on being disapproved to conduct a public meeting

MUKESH SHARMA KALIMPONG, May 09: With some favouring while some against it, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has become the much hyped issue in the hills. Few think it is a hindrance in Gorkhaland formation and the rest think that it is a progressive step for the same. The Kalimpong MLA, Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri today speaking regarding the recent gap in GTA implementation said that the High Power Committee is working towards it. The GTA has nothing to do with the ongoing works in Terai- Dooars, he added.

Dr Chettri further, saying that they should be allowed to conduct a public meeting asserted that it is a must for this is their Constitutional right. If we do not voice against the injustice done with our rights today, then in the future more injustice shall be done to us. This chain should be broken, he asserted. If a political group is not allowed to conduct a meeting then how can the group survive? He questioned. Not only the politically involved parties but even the social organizations have the right to express their thoughts and ideas in a public forum. But the West Bengal Administration is not allowing this to happen, for they think that there will be a tiff between two communities. Their excuses does not seem to match their actions as in one hand one of the State Government’s politicians come to hills, addresses a meeting and leaves, while in the other hand when a different politician opts to do the same, he/ she is not allowed. Are there different facilities to different politicians? Asked the MLA to the Administration. Lastly, he notified that they want to conduct a meeting to appeal the public not to take it otherwise if any areas are not included under GTA.
