A gentleman came all the way from Gorakhpur to meet me and the discussion we had left me very disturbed. He is an Ex-Serviceman who went back to his hometown, Gorakhpur, after serving in the Indian Army. His son went to the local district administration to get a domicile certificate for recruitment purpose. He was denied a certificate because the DM believes that since he is a Nepali speaking person he must be from Nepal. The father has a voter I-card, has land ownership certificate and, to top it all, is an ex-serviceman. The son has a voter I-card and Indian birth certificate. Are they foreigners? I assured the gentleman that we will take it up with the local MP, with UP Chief Minister, with the Union Home Minister, and raise a voice inside the Parliament. Such an ignorant DM has to be sacked. Disturbing to see such a mindset in the bureaucracy.
