GJM is born to achieve Gorkhaland

Dr Chettri GJM holds national seminar, 4 agendas passed 

Darjeeling,  Formation of Gorkhaland, tribal status to all Gorkhas residing in different parts of India except for Scheduled Castes, linguistic minority status of Nepali language and inclusion of Terai- Dooars mouzas in Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), were the 4 agendas passed during the National Seminar of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) Central Committee held at Gymkhana hall on Sunday. 

 The GJM Central Committee General Secretary, Roshan Giri in his speech announced afore mentioned agendas and also presented the party resolutions in the seminar that was presided over by the Morcha Chief, Bimal Gurung. Different speakers spoke on four agendas. Darjeeling MLA, Trilok Dewan speaking about the tribal status said that it should be given to the Gorkhas. It is also mentioned in clause 8 of the GTA agreement. 

“This demand is for a solid unity, survival and security of the Gorkhas”, advocated Dewan. Likewise, Kurseong MLA, Dr. Rohit Sharma stressed on the linguistic minority status of the Nepali language and inclusion of Terai- Dooars in GTA. Further, Kalimpong MLA, Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri spoke about the need for Gorkhaland “GJM is born to attain Gorkhaland”, he stated and underlined that its demand has never been sidelined. Since, GTA is a house which has 45 elected members, it can pass and send the resolution for Gorkhaland to the Government.

 If it is not accepted by the Government then the GJM Chief may also cancel GTA, notified Dr Chettri. Party delegates from Karbi (Assam), Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Dehradun, Roorkee, Rajasthan, Kolkata, Punjab, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Jammu Kashmir, Uttarkhand, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and Agsu (Assam) were present. While the party delegates of the hills comprised of Darjeeling MLA, Trilok Kumar Dewan, Kurseong MLA, Dr. Rohit Sharma, Kalimpong MLA, Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri and GJM Central Committee members.

 Assistant Secretary, Raju Pradhan delivered the welcome speech while the Organizational Secretary, Diwakar Gurung and P Arjun announced Morcha’s forthcoming programmes. Also during the seminar, cultural program was organized. Singer Rakesh Lama presented a song whose lyrics were written by the GJM President.
