CPRM sticks to 3-tier Panchayat election in Hills

 Darjeeling September 9: The CPRM in the Hills has been once again demanding for the 3-tier Panchayat election under the GTA. The CPRM Spokesperson Govind Chettri today said that the 3 tier Panchayat election provision has been enshrined in under the GTA. Informing more Chettri said that the CPRM central committee meeting under the chairmanship of the working President LM Lama was held today at the party office Darjeeling. 

They had talks on the 3-tier panchayat election. He said that the 3-tier panchayat system will enable stability and strength which can ultimately developed the Hills. The government can form Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik and Bijanbari as Mahakuma Parishad which can pave way easier for the 3-tier system. At present there are 8 block offices which should be increased to minimum 16 and there are 112 gram panchayats that should be increased to 160 and the party has been demanding the same from before said Chettri. 

 The meeting also discussed on the electricity and the telephone bills which has been a major headache for the people in the Hills. Chettri here questioned the GJM stand still and further suggested to talk on the matter to the Centre Government. It is the responsibility of the GJM’s MLA’s to work on it said Chettri. On the other hand the results of the graduating students during the agitation were also worse. Out of 716 students only 219 passed the exam from Kurseong that too fetching less than 60%. CPRM also demands that inquiry to be done in on the regard added Chettri.
