SU holds the finale of ‘Genius Among Us’


MUKESH SHARMA ,kpg, As a part of its 5th foundation celebrations, the Sikkim University has been organizing different functions in the recent months. Likewise, the programme/ talent hunt titled ‘Genius Among Us’ is also a part of the celebrations. It aims in bringing out the budding talents of Sikkim, Darjeeling and Kalimpong. The said programme which commenced last month saw its finale today at the Kalimpong Town Hall during which intellect PR Pradhan presided as the chief guest.
The singing competition finals which was held at the outset had 7 participants out of which Ravi Ghatraj from Temi Secondary School, Namchi was adjudged the winner followed by Nirmal Subba from TNA and Tila Rupa Chettri from Geyzing Government School in the 2nd and 3rd position, respectively.
Likewise, in the group song competition, Ongmu Lepcha and group of North Sikkim Academy, Kaushal Lama and group of St Robert’s, Darjeeling and Amil and group of Luwig Secondary School stood at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position, respectively.
Deepa Rai of St George won the solo dance competition followed by Sonam Doma Lepcha of Notre dame Academy as the 2nd and Suraksha Rai of Pioneer Academy in the 3rd. Similarly, the group dance competition saw Nikita Pradhan and group from JNV, Mangan, Divyani and group from Little Flower, Mangan and Sarima Tamang from Girls SSS, Gyalshing as the top 3 winners.
The programme was then followed by painting competition in which the winners were, Moti Bahadur of Sombaria Government SSS, Shiv Chettri of TNSSS and Arpan Raj of New Government SS. Furthermore, in the photography competition, Nakul Pradhan of Rockvale Academy stood 1st while Bipin Bhandari of Government High School, Darjeeling stood 2ndand Tashihang Limboo of Phodong SSS stood 3rd.
All the winners of the respective competitions were distributed prizes by the chief guest and other distinguished guests. The founding Vice Chancellor of SU, Prof Mahendra P Lama, Padma Shree Sonam Tshering Lepcha, the lecturers of SU, students, staffs and the students, teachers and guardians from different Schools of Sikkim, Darjeeling and Kalimpong were present at large. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Amitava Bhattacharya and the programme was presented by Rebika Rai.
