RAJEEV RAVIDAS, TT, Kalimpong, July 18: Posters rejecting the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration put up by an anti-Morcha conglomerate on the first anniversary of the GTA agreement were torn down at Kalimpong by supporters of the hill set-up.
Minutes after the posters condemning the GTA agreement were pasted on the walls around Damber Chowk in the heart of the town in the morning, a group of youths came and removed them.
Some poster that were put up at another location, Ongden Road, a little distance from Damber Chowk, were not removed.
The posters called for the creation of a state of Gorkhaland when the state of Telangana is formed.
The GTF comprising anti-Morcha parties CPRM, ABGL, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh and GNLF-C, however, did not lodge any police complaint. “This (the tearing down of posters) does not surprise us, given the undemocratic atmosphere prevalent in the hills. I do not want to take names, but this exposes the fear of those taking part in the GTA elections,” said Munish Tamang, the GTF secretary.
