Deep Gazmer, TNN | Jun 8, 2012, DARJEELING: The women's wing of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) took out a rally on Thursday demanding that Dera Sacha Sauda Guru, a religious figure from Haryana, who has been frequenting the Hills of late, be prohibited from entering the region. The Nari Morcha has also submitted a memorandum to the district administration stating that the religious guru should not be allowed because he is a controversial figure and his presence is making the women uncomfortable and unsafe.
Addressing the gathering, the Nari Morcha president, Asha Gurung, said, "The Baba and his followers are making Darjeeling unclean and before these people take the law in their own hands he should be removed by the authorities themselves."
The Morcha alleged that the Baba was embroiled in various controversies like rape and murder and hence should not get a foothold in the Hills. The memorandum also cited some examples of the cases that were filed against the religious guru.
The memorandum mentioned that in 1991 his manager suddenly disappeared and a case of murder was filed against him by the CBI in 2010, though the case was later dismissed. Another instance was of an anonymous letter sent to the Prime Minister and judges of the Punjab and Haryana high courts which accused the Baba of raping a person.
The Nari Morcha said they will continue with their agitation unless the Baba is driven out of Darjeeling. The religious guru was staying in Darjeeling for the past few months and left on Wednesday, after the Nari Morcha announced their programme.
