Ghisingh may fly to city, spring a surprise

ENS, Kolkata, Wed Jun 13 2012: Amid the changing political dynamics in the Hills following the Justice Shyamal Sen panel recommendations on the GTA, unconfirmed reports of GNLF leader Subash Ghisingh taking a flight to Kolkata on Tuesday set off rumour mills abuzz. Though there has been no official confirmation whether the GNLF leader has sought an appointment with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, his arrival in Kolkata would be considered significant in the light of the recent events.
Subash GhisinghThough many considered the GNLF chief as a spent force — after he was ousted by GJM supporters from the Hills, he has been taking refuge in Jalpaiguri — political circles feel that the 74-year-old leader could spring a surprise.
Whatever political following he had in the Hills is slowly disintegrating. On Monday, one of his trusted lieutenants, Rajen Mukhia of Mirik, joined the Trinamool Congress along with several other former councillors from Kalimpong and Kurseong.
Reports of more GNLF leaders and cadres joining the Trinamool rank and file in Darjeeling cannot be ruled out either.
The CM has already said that apart from meeting GJM leaders over the panel report, she would also hold talks with “civil society delegations” from Darjeeling.
CM-GJM meet on June 16
The meeting between GJM delegation with Mamata Banerjee has been rescheduled to June 16 as the CM has gone to Delhi for presidential poll talks.
