“Bimal Gurung is just a vanguard of the State Government to suppress the Gorkhaland issue”; Khati ABGL General Secretary pin points GJM’s faults

MUKESH SHARMA KALIMPONG, June 10: The High Power Committee report of recommending only 5 mouzas of Terai- Dooars under Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) against the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s (GJM) 150 expectations out of 398, might be a big blow to the Morcha, but it has definitely carved a way for Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL), General Secretary, Pratap Khati to pin point the Morcha’s faults. Speaking on this regard Khati mocked that the GJM has been able to secure just 5 marks out of 400. Now the public needs to decide whether the GJM has passed or failed, he asserted. Restating the statement of ABGL’s slain leader Lt Madan Tamang, that “Bimal Gurung is just a vanguard of the State Government to suppress the Gorkhaland issue”; Khati charged that the State Government has been fuelling Gurung for its vested motives.

Gurung had once declared before that if Gorkhaland is not formed within March 10, 2010 then he shall kill himself. But neither Gorkhaland was formed, nor did he kill himself, notified Khati. “The public from hills and the Terai- Dooars gave their whole hearted support for Gorkhaland and during this process many of them lost their lives too, but till date what did they attain? Nothing,” underlined the General Secretary. Due to GJM’s false steps a rift between different communities has emerged in Terai- Dooars, he told. Further, he asserting that nothing has been gained till date; Khati said that GTA is the baptized form of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC). The public were fooled by Subash Ghising during 1986 and in recent times Gurung is doing so, he added. The people have not only been deceived but they have been heavily betrayed. The Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee keeps on stating “Now money shall flow”; hence the GJM has been conducting agitation for the money and the supreme chair, alleged the General Secretary. Further, regaining his composure as the ABGL’s General Secretary, Khati advocated that the public should realize that the ABGL stands firm by its words unlike GJM. Lastly, he informed that ABGL will be conducting a hunger strike on June 21, 2012 at Darjeeling to press the demand for handing over the digital files of Madan Tamang murder case to the League which is with the CM right now. If the Government does not hand over the tape until the last week on June, then ABGL President, Bharati Tamang who is also the widow of Lt Madan Tamang will sit for an indefinite hunger strike, he concluded.
