An awareness programme of the parents and senior citizens was held today at the Ram Krishna Manch under the guidance of the Hill Social Welfare Society, a NGO based at Kalimpong. Informing the gathering, the president of the society Dinesh Chandra Poudyal said that in 2007 the West Bengal government had made a provision in which the old aged people and the senior citizens were to get security and facilities from the government.
The old age home which has been established in the other parts of the State is still absence in hills. The people if now complaints on the issue, there are provision for it he added.
Deputy collector Diki Bhutia speaking on the occasion said that if people appeals for the provision the government can provide the same in the hills.
The function also marked the presence of sub divisional officer LN Sherpa, deputy magistrate TN Sherpa, society secretary Shova Chettri and other members.
