Environment Awareness Programme organized under Kalimpong College

MUKESH SHARMA KALIMPONG, May 14: Under the National Environment Awareness Programme the Kalimpong College organized an Environment Awareness Programme at the College, Deorali Busty and Bong Busty. The said Programme was coordinated by FOSEP, Darjeeling. Under the guidance of Prof HK Gautam the BBA students of the College and the people from the remote areas of Deorali Busty partook in the Programme. Along with awareness drive, the students also conducted a survey. The survey results highlighted the water issue faced by the people of Deorali Busty. People are compelled to walk a kilometer to fetch a pale of water. Though the said area is just a 20 mins away from the main town, still till date no benefits have been provided from the Government’s side regarding this matter. Instead Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) such as Glenn Foundation is doing the needful by providing water tanks and water pumping machines. But the pumps cannot be of any use for there is no proper provision of electricity by the Power Department. The troupe met with the teachers of the Deorali Primary School and its students and also educated them about conservation of natural resources and water.
