Awareness cum Training programme for farmers’ concludes

MUKESH SHARMA KALIMPONG, May 24: The Awareness cum Training programme organized by the Payeun Krishak Sangh and sponsored by NABARD held at the Pagang Gumpa Primary School concluded today under the Presidentship of PT Bhutia. The Krishak Kalyan Sangathan General Secretary Vishnu Chettri was present as the Chief Guest whereas the Guest of Honour was the Divisional Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr Lah Tshering Bhutia. The Chief Guest during his address spoke about the benefits for the farmers under the 100 day employment scheme, common people insurance policy, Tribal Development Project etc. 

The Divisional Agriculture Officers Gopi Chandra Sharma and Binod Sharma respectively enlightened the farmers about different schemes provided by the Panchayats and the Department to them. Binod Sharma also informed them about Farmers’ Credit Card, Farm School, crop insurance etc. Dr Bhutia also delivered information about rabies and its prevention and cure during the programme. During the interactive session between the farmers and the officials who were present during the programme, the farmers demanded insurance for the crops which were heavily affected by the hailstone. They also enquired on why the farmers of Darjeeling hills are deprived of the facilities which come under the Farmers’ Credit Card. Lastly they also asked about why the fund of Rs 1 crore 85 lakhs were distributed which was sanctioned in 2006 under the State Horticulture Mission.
