Morcha working towards finding a solution to the prolonged water crisis

KALIMPONG, May 08:
The water shortage issue has taken a toll over Kalimpong town despite
of all the efforts to find a solution for it. The Kalimpong Sub
Divisional Committee, Samuel Gurung yet again speaking on this matter
said that this has become one of the gravest issues of the town. He
clarified that the Morcha is not only discussing about the matter but
is also working towards finding a solution for it. It is working from
the grass root level in order to curb the problem up to some extent,
he cleared.
Further, Gurung acquainted that the Kalimpong MLA, Dr Harka Bahadur
Chettri has met with the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC)
Administrator and the PHE Minister at Kolkata yesterday regarding this
prolonged issue. The MLA has also directed the District Magistrate
(DM), to distribute water through tankers since the water distributed
right now is insufficient. Similarly, the Morcha will also be meeting
the officials of the concerned Departments tomorrow and try find a
solution.
Gurung further, asserted that this is not only the problem of a single
Department instead everyone should come together to solve this issue.
Also in order to solve this issue provisions are being made to draw
water from the River Teesta through pumping.
He also notified that the water pipelines of Neora which connects to
the town via various villages are being disrupted by the villagers.
The people of these villages bore holes in the pipelines and use water
for their daily chores and agriculture. This also adds up to one of
the reasons for the water shortage.
Gurung assured that they will be talking about this matter with the
villagers and will try to find alternative provisions for them.
Lastly, he appealed to the public to use water judiciously.
