Milani Club pays homage to Tagore on his 151st birth anniversary

KALIMPONG, May 08:
On the eve of the acclaimed poet, Rabindranath Tagore the Milani Club
of Hill Top, Kalimpong paid homage to his statue situated at Gauripur
House and also sang Rabindra Sangeet along with recitation of poems.
Tagore used to visit this place during his vacations and also aired
his poem named ‘Janmodin’ via All India Radio from here. Justice
Sengupta, BK Chettri and the members of the club were present during
the function.
Similarly,
the Information and Cultural Department, West Bengal
Government in coordination with the Milani Club also organized a
programme in the town’s Ramkrishna Rangmanch. Along with Rabindra
Sangeet and poems they also put up a dance programme. The programme
which was held under the Presidentship of Additional Chief Justice,
Judicial Magistrate R Dam was mostly attended by the Bengali community
residing in Kalimpong along with the poets. The Deputy Magistrate, HK
Roy presided over as the Chief Guest whereas the Municipality
President LB Pariyar, Additional District Judge AB Bhowmick and
litterateur PR Pradhan were present as the Special Guests. The
Information and Cultural Department’s Sub Divisional Administrator
Mitendra Chettri and the Department’s staffs were also present during
the programme. The Rabindra Awardee, Padmashree Sonam Lepcha was also
felicitated.
